Trolox is an antioxidant derived from water-soluble vitamin E, with oxygen quenching activity. The activity of Trolox ranges between ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid. Studies show that lipid peroxidation, cytotoxicity, and apoptosis induced by cytochrome P450 2E1 in Hep G2 cells is blocked in the presence of Trolox. It has been observed that Trolox can quench free radicals and inhibit methylmercury (MeHg)-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in C6 glial cells. In addition, Trolox has demonstrated the ability to reduce cytotoxicity of Microcystis aeruginosa and microcystin-LR in Artemia franciscana nauplii.
