Description
Transcription factor gene AP2-C (AP-2 gamma) belongs to a family of four closely related genes. The AP-2 transcription factor has been shown to play an important role in the development of tissues of ectodermal origin and has also been implicated in mammary oncogenesis (2). A physical and functional association between AP-2gamma transcription factor and the Wwox protein has been demonstrated. results suggest that Wwox tumor suppressor protein inhibits AP-2gamma oncogenic activity by sequestering it in the cytoplasm (2). P-2 gamma had been implicated in multiple functions during proliferation and differentiation based on its expression pattern in trophoblast, neural crest, and ectoderm cells in murine embryos. AP-2 gamma seems to be required in early embryonic development because it regulates the genetic programs controlling proliferation and differentiation of extraembryonic trophectodermal cells (3).
